Talking, Writing, Mediating: Generative AI for Integrated Communicative Modes In Language Teaching and CLIL/CBIL
Letizia Cinganotto and Giorgia Montanucci, University for Foreigners of Perugia, Italy
Answering how AI can empower teachers in designing activities that integrate the four CEFR communicative modes was at the heart of a recent Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) teacher training held at the University for Foreigners of Perugia in Italy. The initiative guided educators through the development of engaging, multimodal learning tasks supported by Generative AI (GenAI), by encouraging the integration of language and subject content through digital innovation. By leveraging GenAI tools, participants explored how technology can facilitate meaningful, action-oriented communication, while addressing both linguistic competence and disciplinary knowledge in a coherent and learner-centered framework.
Spaces In School AI: Supervised Support for Student Learning
Maryann Phillips, University of North Texas at Kansai Gaidai University, Hirakata, Osaka, Japan
Spaces in School AI, an artificial intelligence (AI) platform designed for teachers, helps students use AI appropriately by allowing teacher-created parameters that generative AI follows when communicating with students. Teachers create Spaces based on student needs and control what AI shares, minimizing overreliance and safeguarding academic integrity.
