Presentation: Vocabulary Learning from Multimodal Reading: Why Does It Help?

Date: Wednesday, March 19th

Time: 3:30-4:15 pm

Location: Marriott, Bixby Ballroom 2

This session summarizes a study providing insights into how multimodal assists learners, both in changing how they read and in new word learning from reading.

Academic Session: Vocabulary Richness: Why It’s Important and How to Promote It

Date: Thursday, March 20th

Time: 9:00-10:15 am

Location: Hyatt, Seaview Ballroom C

Vocabulary size and richness, both important, are not necessarily the same. Richness enables a user to express and understand subtleties of meaning, perhaps with already-knowing vocabulary items. Three prominent researchers and teachers explore richness and how to promote it with ESL/EFL learners. Audience interaction is encouraged.

Intersection Session: The Art and Science of Reading Instruction
