Call for Authors: The 6 Principles for Exemplary Teaching of English Learners: Integrating Technology
TESOL Press seeks authors for a new book in The 6 Principles series about the role of technology for enhancing the instruction and assessment of multilingual learners of English. This book, The 6 Principles for Exemplary Teaching of English Learners: Integrating Technology (working title), will build on and draw from the other books in the series to demonstrate how technology is an asset to English language teaching (ELT) for children, youth, and adults in all educational and workforce settings.
While the book should be based on current research and practice regarding teaching ELT with technology, we do not envision a book focused on particular online programs, software, or apps, nor is the book to concentrate solely on AI. Rather, the book will guide teachers in the appropriate and dynamic use of technology, discuss current trends and considerations, provide strategies and techniques for instruction and assessment, and showcase, through scenarios, how technology can be infused in The 6 Principles and enacted in the classroom.
We expect this book to have five chapters, such as the following:
1. A Vision for Integrating Technology in Exemplary English Language Teaching
2. What Teachers Should Know About Technology to Plan and Deliver ELT
3. The 6 Principles for Exemplary Teaching of English Learners With Technology
- Principle 1. Know Your Digital Learners
- Principle 2. Create Conditions for Language Learning With Technology
- Principle 3. Design High-Quality Tech-Infused Lessons for Language Development
- Principle 4. Adapt Lesson Delivery as Needed in Dynamic Tech Environments
- Principle 5. Monitor and Assess Student Language Development via Technology
- Principle 6. Engage and Collaborate Within a Community of Digital Practice
4. The Tech-Infused Principles in Action: Teaching Scenarios in Different Contexts
5. The Future of ELT and Technology: Emerging Trends and Challenges
The table of contents may be adjusted by the author(s) in conjunction with the series editor. This book may be a multiauthor collaboration. Authors may apply as an individual or as a team; coauthors should bring different areas of expertise and interests to the project. Individual authors may be asked to coauthor with other qualified applicants.
TESOL values and seeks diverse and inclusive participation within the field of ELT and is committed to upholding antiracist and antidiscrimination policies and practices within the association. We encourage applicants to indicate how their expression of interest contributes to TESOL's DEIA commitment.
All authors receive compensation and are under contract to TESOL.
If you are interested, please submit an expression of interest using TESOL’s online submission system (my.reviewr.com/site/tesol_press). Submissions must include:
- CV (abbreviated as needed, 6 pp max; 1 for each coauthor, if submitting as a team)
- Cover letter (300 words max; 1 joint cover letter if submitting as a team); please include how you, or each author, if submitting as coauthors, have integrated technology into your practice
- 3 writing samples (per coauthor, if submitting as a team):
- a vignette or summary of a lesson (real or imagined) that integrates technology and considers the 6Ps in preparation and delivery (1200 words max),
- an academically oriented text (or excerpt) discussing technology and language education (1200–1500 words max);
- a list of 10 tips (or guidelines) for teachers of multilingual learners of English when integrating technology (clear statements only, not annotated, 1 page max)
EXTENDED DEADLINE: 15 November 2025
If you have questions about the submission process this call, please reach out to The 6 Principles Series Editor, Deborah Short.
