Although using corpora helps English language teachers and students by bringing authentic language into the classroom and correcting teacher intuition, they are often viewed as mysterious and nonintuitive. In this article from the November 2023 issue of TESOL Journal, the author shares the benefits of using corpora for language teaching and outlines how students can create their own “DIY corpora” to investigate discipline-specific academic writing.
