Event Description
SPLIS Webinar: Pronunciation: Muscle, Mind, Meaning, Memory
When:
Jul 30, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM (ET)
Description
Pronunciation is uniquely varied. It is part language and part skill, part productive and part receptive. This means that we must vary the way we teach it. In this talk, I will explain how we can approach pronunciation teaching from four angles, labelled muscle, mind, meaning and memory. I will argue that the kinds of activity we use for each of these must be different, and I will ask participants to try out example materials.
The intended audience of this webinar are pronunciation practitioners, researchers, and material designers.
Presenter
Mark Hancock is a teacher, trainer, and author of a number of pronunciation books including Pronunciation Games, English Pronunciation in Use Intermediate, (both CUP) and his award-winning self-published collection PronPack 1-4. Forthcoming this summer are PronPack: Pronunciation for Spanish Speakers (Hancock McDonald ELT) and Mark Hancock’s 50 Tips for Teaching Pronunciation (CUP).
