This is a friendly reminder that you are invited join us at the University of South Florida (USF) for a special presentation by Dr. Pilar Garcés-Conejos Blitvich (Professor of Linguistics at University North Carolina Charlotte) on Friday, October 28th from 12:00-1:00pm (ET). The presentation will be held on Zoom:

Dr. Blitvich will be delivering the inaugural presentations of our annual "Behind the Screen" speaker series, sponsored by USF's
Digital Discourse, Media & Writing Lab
. In her talk, "
Charting uncharted territory – Affect and effect
," Blitvich will discuss her work which examines the role of language in online cancel culture. Blitvich will highlight how she navigated methodological challenges, and she will share how her research on this topic has changed her own thinking about online aggression.
Dr. Blitvich is an expert on language in social media. Much of her work focuses on pragmatics and linguistic im/politeness and the role of language in conflict and aggression. She is a prolific scholar whose research has appeared in the journals as well as in numerous edited volumes. Dr. Blitvich is Editor-in-Chief of the
Journal of Language, Aggression & Conflict
, and she is dedicated to supporting the work of early career researchers.
