    Apologies for cross-posting

Please check out this NYS TESOL E-book: Supporting Student Success through Community Asset Mapping

It is a must-read for educators looking for concrete ways to tear down deficit perspectives about multilingual learners, instead, replacing them with a lens of celebrating and amplifying students' unique perspectives, assets, and strengths.

    Available at Amazon for $5.

We thank the following authors for their kind words and support:

"I am blown away by the diverse authors/educators who vividly show us how to center students as they learn from and with them in ways that are multilingual, multimodal and grounded in the local and global realities."
    – Tatyana Kleyn, The City College New York & CUNY - Initiative on Immigration and Education

"There is so much written about how educators are supposed to "fix" the so-called "deficits'' of English Language Learners. Ching-Ching, Nikki and Jasmin have, instead, created a book sharing many excellent and practical ideas for how we can highlight and build upon the multiple assets all our learners bring to the classroom with them."
    – Larry Ferlazzo, Education Week Teacher Advice Columnist

"NYS TESOL's new ebook, Supporting Student Success Through Community Assets Mapping, offers educators cutting-edge examples of how to bring a strengths-based vision of learning for linguistically diverse learners into reality. From podcasting with students, to humanizing a transborder classroom, to intergenerational learning, this book demonstrates educators'' creativity and commitment to weave multimodal and community-based practices into the English learning space and will inspire many to forge their own paths."
    – Laura Ascenzi-Moreno, Ph.D. Professor of Bilingual Education & Bilingual Program Coordinator at Brooklyn College & Co-author of Rooted in Strength: Using Translanguaging to Grown Multilingual Readers and Writers

This looks like an excellent read! I am facilitating professional development with a community of adult ESOL teachers in Florida. Were are discussing how teachers can apply a strength-based approach that leverages the skills, goals, and creativity of adult ESOL students toward advocating for their community and raising awareness of resources that exist.

Thanks for the share and for your work!
