Thank you, Hari!  My main interest within ELT is L2 identity/L2 self and the imagined communities of L2 learners.  How about you?  I appreciate your suggestion to check out these different areas of TESOL.  Much appreciated!  ~Kyle

    Hello @Kyle Undem

I'd like to know the main topics you study in the MA-TESOL online program.

About teaching in Japan, would you, please, tell me the requirements to apply for a TEFL job in Japan?

    Kindest regards

    Hello again @Mohamed Ramadan

Absolutely.  The program I am in (MA-TESOL at Hamline University) offers a variety of linguistics and SLA courses as part of their comprehensive curriculum.  From sociolinguistics to pragmatics, phonology to assessment practices, teaching practices to morphology, it is a very thorough and well-conceived curriculum.  I have gained so much from this program and cannot imagine where I would be as a teacher without it.

Requirements to apply for a TEFL job in Japan vary.  Typically most assistant language teaching positions require a four-year degree from a university where English is the medium of instruction. If you wish to teach at a university, typically a master's degree is desired.  I got my start here with the Jet Programme.

I hope this information has been helpful.  Please let me know if any further questions!

    ~Kyle
