    Dear Colleagues,

Even though there's no TESOL conference this year, you can still attend at least one of the events planned for that conference. The  Best of EVO 2020 - Not Cancelled! Moved ONLINE, has been crowd-sourced and reproduced by EVO coordinators and moderators here: https://tinyurl.com/best2020evo

EVO (Electronic Village Online, http://evosessions.org) has hosted numerous five-week workshops every January and February, since 2001. The Best of EVO is an event staged each year at TESOL where many moderators of these sessions appear in person to present their work, and where those who can't make the trip have in recent years joined us live at TESOL from a distance.

Since this year's conference in Denver is cancelled, the event has now been organized entirely online in Zoom, on these days, at the following times

As we are no longer constrained to TESOL's tight timings, the online event allows moderator teams 20 minutes to introduce their EVO sessions and then discuss them with online participants in Zoom, providing flexibility not possible when streaming from the brick and mortar conference.

Details are being constantly updated at the Google Doc URL https://tinyurl.com/best2020evo

You can find ZOOM and presentation links there and also at Learning2gether here http://learning2gether.pbworks.com/w/page/32206114/volunteersneeded#FriSatApr34nbspBestofEVO2020NOTcancelledMovedONLINE

All are welcome to join us, it's free,
and if you miss it, recordings will be available at http://evosessions.org and at https://learning2gether.net

    Hello again Vance,

I just want to add that our EV presentation is a 90-minute hands on workshop, and the virtual sessions on the indicated days in early April are two hours each.  It would be difficult to do a hands-on workshop virtually, but if we are to do it, we would need 90 minutes out of the 120 minute session.

Can you inform us if workshops are to be included in the EV virtual presentations?

    Many thanks again,

    Alison and Alaa

Hi, just to clarify, the Best of EVO online event pertains only to this one event that was scheduled to be presented at the TESOL conference which many of us are missing this year in Denver. EVO, which stands for Electronic Village Online, was created with its first sessions in 2001 for the purpose of extending the concept of the physical Electronic Village, an initiative of the CALL-IS which was started back in the 1980's, and which has been a fixture at on-site TESOL conferences ever since. EVO, the series of online workshops that take place every Jan/Feb (starting in 2001) is a CALL-IS initiative which is "sponsored" by TESOL to the extent that the organization lends its imprimatur, but it runs directly under the auspices of CALL-IS, and logistically under its own auspices which can be explored at http://evosessions.org..

So the EVO and EV at each conference are organized by CALL-IS but the two intersect in name only, and through the coincidence that the Best of EVO event at TESOL conferences has been run in spaces often adjacent to the Electronic Village, which hosts its own events.

Due to the nature of EVO, a set of workshops taking place online each year, the moderators of those workshops are familiar with online spaces and with working with colleagues at a distance. When we hold our live events at TESOL conferences, relatively few of the EVO moderators are able to physically attend so at recent conferences we've been staging them as blended events, with some speakers actually at the podium, but with most of our speakers coming to us virtually via Zoom.

This being the case in previous years, when the conference was cancelled, the EVO coordination team expressed interest in going ahead with taking the event entirely online, as we had already set up the mechanisms for that. That endeavor took place in our Google Doc which we have crowd-sourced to EVO coordinators and moderators, resulting in the program you see here: https://tinyurl.com/best2020evo.

My announcement was to invite participants in EVO or in the TESOL community at large to join us at the times indicated, or to view the recordings afterwards, I made the announcement on behalf of the EVO coordination team this year, but I did not intend to speak on behalf of the TESOL organization nor CALL-IS nor the organizers of events taking place in the Electronic Village. I hope I didn't imply that, but thought I had better clarify.

    Dear Alison,

My name is Michael D'Abramo and I'm a university lecturer in Massachusetts. I used to work in Iraq and Jordan, albeit in a different line of work. I've visited most of the region and am a big fan of the Middle East. If you don't mind me asking, have you enjoyed your time working and living in Kuwait? Do you like AUK? Is Kuwait a good place for families?

I know we don't know each other, so please accept my thanks for any insights.

    Best regards,

    Mike
