    Why didn't someone teach me how to award credit for foreign transcripts in the graduate school?

    As a former ESOL teacher, I thought I was prepared to evaluate foreign transcripts, but it didn't take long for me to realize that NOTHING I learned in my school counseling program had prepared me for this specialized task.

    In 2013, I created a framework for evaluating foreign school records, which was published in Language Magazine in 2016. My framework falls within the parameters of local policy, and state and federal laws and has kept my district lawsuit free for several years. Since this time, I have evaluated an average of 1200 foreign transcripts annually from six continents and 129 countries, presented at several international, national, and state-level conferences, and even trained several school districts across the country. I would love to share this framework with fellow school counselors charged with the task of awarding transfer credit for international records.
