This Thursday, 18 June, at 1300 UTC (9 am EDT), Vance Stevens and Heike Philp will conduct a free webinar on How to Effectively Defuse Zoom Bombers.  The webinar is free and no pre-registration is required.

Vance and Heike are two CALL practitioners with decades-long experience in hosting online events. Having both experienced zoom-bombing we have investigated and documented how to prevent future occurrences. We will model and explain our slightly varying approaches to SMART Zoom security, not necessarily tightened security.

We will discuss these documents, which you are welcome to view beforehand:

This will be the 27th #TALIN2020 Webinar and #Learning2gether episode 473.

You will find further updates and information needed to attend this event posted at
In case you miss it, the meeting will be recorded and uploaded to YouTube, and its link will appear a day or so after the webinar at https://learning2gether.netThe meeting will also be live-streamed on Facebook on the TALIN group page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/talin2020/

Greetings all, and apologies for cross-posting, but this is just to follow up and let you know that the archival blog post of our presentation and informal chat about how to configure your Zoom settings to best thwart Zoom bombers has been pod-blogged here
    https://learning2gether.net/2020/06/18/176470648/

You'll find there downloadable/streamable audio as well as embeds of both Zoom YouTube and Facebook recordings. There are Zoom text chat logs with hyperlinked URLs, and show notes with commentary and screenshots.

The show notes include links to what amounts to a manual on Zoom settings to help thwart bombers, available here: https://tinyurl.com/vance2020zoom. And because no one really reads manuals the presentation produced a kind of index into that manual to show you which of those Zoom settings you need to set before you create your meeting, and which you can play with once the meeting has started, also available here: https://tinyurl.com/zoom2020vance.

If you're reading this quickly, you might not realize that the two links are different, but they each link to one another, so click on one and you can link to the other.

Learning2gether and TALIN (Teaching and Learning in IsolatioN) meet at least weekly, sometimes more often, and if you would like to join us or host a discusson to share your expertise with us you can find more information on how to share or attend upcoming webinars at http://learning2gether.pbworks.com/ or at https://tinyurl.com/talin2020. Past events are posted on the TALIN page and at https://learning2gether.net

Now that you have those links I don't plan to announce future events here, but as long as I'm posting, and in case you are interested, on Sun 21 June noon UTC Graham Stanley is hosting one of our regular weekly "OpenMic-inars" on Tech Responses to School Closures. He intends to experiment with guiding us in a community-based attempt at sharing "what we know about the tech responses we have seen to the school closures using https://miro.com/ to document our findings.

This will be in Zoom and the Zoom meeting ID and password will be provided on the day at the following URLs (this is one of the steps we take to discourage Zoom bombers)

For more information see http://learning2gether.pbworks.com/ or https://tinyurl.com/talin2020

The event will also be streamed from Zoom on
    https://www.facebook.com/groups/webheadsinaction/

and the time for this, wherever you are on the planet, is:
    https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Sun+June+21+noon+UTC+-+Webheads+Revival+Weekly+Sunday+Meeting+number+13&iso=20200621T12&p1=1440&ah=1

Thanks for your attention and I hope you find the materials on defusing Zoom bombers useful.

    Vance
