Hello all! Here is a bit about the TESOL B-MEIS SIG. Do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to know more!

    Our Mission

    • Support: The purpose of the Bilingual-Multilingual Interest Section (B-MEIS) is to support and promote all multilingual learners' linguistic repertoires and multiliteracy skills as fundamental to the acquisition of a second or additional language.
    • Elevate: The IS believes that additive and dynamic approaches must be endorsed and implemented in educational institutions in the interests of students from diverse backgrounds.
    • Sustain: The IS supports the opportunity and right of all individuals to develop, construct and maintain a diverse range of cultural, linguistic, and literate repertoires of practice.
    • Transform: The IS works to foster collaborative relations of power and address inequitable power relations in society and empower minority students to use their own repertoires of practice.

    Our Vision for 2021-2022

    • We aim at creating opportunities for dialogue and engagement about designing opportunities for multilingual learners to actively use and tap into all their linguistic, cultural and racial experiences and resources when learning English in international, local, glocalized and virtual contexts.

    Opportunities for Engagement

    • Twitter Chats and Events: Follow us at @TESOLBiMulti and join us in using the hashtags #BiMultiChat to participate in conversations! We have an extraordinary Twitter event coming up: #LanguageIsAVerb which will connect our multifaceted identities and varied experiences as multilinguals to Art during the week of September 20-26, 2021. Come and share your multilingual ways of being, knowing, doing and feeling.
    • Webinars: Check our recorded sessions by subscribing to the TESOL International Association YouTube channel. We have several panels and discussions on translanguaging, race in bilingual education, world englishes, hip hop and translanguaging, multilingual education and parenting and much more! Stay tuned for upcoming events.
    • Bilingual Basic Newsletter: Read the contributions of fellow colleagues, teachers and academics on the impact of multilingual education in ELT, TESOL, Bilingual Education and beyond!
    • Community: Join us and be part of this dynamic SIG! Come and work with us!
