Introduction: Greetings from New Orleans

Hello everyone!  I'm so excited to officially join the TESOL community after 10 years of ELL instruction.  Our intensive program at Loyola is on a bit of a hiatus right now with COVID, but we are hoping to come back strong in the fall.  Who ever thought that Zoom would make us all realize how much we love in person classes! I'm excited to get to know other teachers and share resources and ideas.  Please feel free to reach out!

    Hi Jessica,

Welcome! I agree with you about Zoom- thankful for technology but certainly missing in-person courses! Does your IEP host mostly international students? Many of the international students I work with weren't able to make it to the US this academic year, but I've been working with them (and time zone differences!) online. It's not the same, but it's something!

    Best,
    Chelsea

Hi!  Yes, they were mostly international student who had to return home.  We're hoping to have some return in the summer with the vaccine rollouts, but if this past year has taught us anything it's that nothing is set in stone!

Agreed! I'm worried about many new students not being able to join us this fall as many are having trouble getting visa appointments. A large majority of our international population is from China. What're the demographics for your IEP?

When I taught at the University of New Orleans we had a lot of Saudis.  At Loyola we have a lot of students from Latin America.  We'll see if there's movement this summer/fall!
