Reactive to Proactive: How CATESOL Pivoted from F2F to Virtual Professional Development and Conferences
This brief presentation describes how CATESOL pivoted from face-to-face to virtual events in Spring 2020. We mention our first responses assisting our colleagues with remote instruction, specifically giving 65 hours of coaching workshops in March, as California was shutting down schools and institutions in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. These online sessions helped fuel us toward proactive efforts to create web-based professional development. We share our experiences and data points from our first Spring Virtual Conference May 2020, and offer suggestions –to ourselves and others– for organizing future virtual conferences.
