Convention and Atlanta first timer

    Hello dear colleagues,

I'm attending the convention and visiting Atlanta for the first time so I was wondering if you'd lend me a hand with a difficulty I'm having.
I signed up for a PCI on the 11th that ends at 9 pm. I'm a little concerned about safety and I haven't decided on accommodation - I want to stay near so taking an uber would be too much but walking at night can be dangerous .

If you too end late that same day, where are you staying? (I'd feel a lot better walking near others) Or where would you if you were me? The obvious response is the Omni but it's too expensive for me right now and it's only that day I'm concerned about.

Thank you all in advance and have a great week!

I gather that Atlanta is not a terribly dangerous city, though I could be wrong and obviously it's easier for men.
For a variety of reasons I hunted for a hotel near the MARTA, the subway so as not to be walking too much and I always feel it's safer on public transport than the street.

This is a nice guide to hotels that are near public transportation: I'm staying at Laugh, Eat, Sleep Downtown Wine Down 9E which is walking distance from the convention, but I believe near the MARTA, too and a lot less expensive than the Omni!

I also wouldn't be shy about asking people in your PCI to see you home. But again, while any city can be problematic, I don't think of Atlanta as being particularly dangerous.

    Hi Maria,

I used to live in Atlanta, Georgia for several years and too familiar with the area where the Conference will be held.  Get with other teachers if you want to go out for a meal at night-give them a ring to coordinate time when to go out together (i.e., Walton Burns, etc).  The Peach Tree Plaza area is safe and good to stroll around; Stone Mountain Park is another, but you will want to go with colleagues-for safety measures.  Take the shorter days' time-span we are currently in-into consideration when sightseeing tourist sites after 5:00 P.M.

    Enjoy the convention.

    Hi MerriLee,

I'm looking for someone to room with me at the Holiday Inn just 6 blocks from the convention from March 9-15.  A double is $186.00 per night, so your share would be $93.00. Would you (or anyone else) be interested?

    Dear Colleagues,
I am a new member here in the Tesol family hence, I really will appreciate it if someone can help me around understanding a lot happening here.
I will really like to attend Atlanta 19 convention but I don't know how to go about with the registration and the necessary documents or logistics one has to provide. On this as well, I pray for a guider. My registration is Student Membership.
Thanks, as I look forward to meeting with friends and colleagues who will volunteer to put me through the rigours of Atlanta 19 registration.

    Best Regards,
    Fidelis Okonma.

How are you Debbie Olson.  Thanks for the invite to roommate with you at the convention in Atlanta.  That said, I will be unable to attend the Teacher's Conference this year---due to my husband's poor health condition---he's under doctor's treatments and doesn't have the ability to care for himself---I'm his Uber Driver to and from doctor appointments.  There are other teachers who are looking for roommates on this posting---I'm sure one of them will be more than happy to share the expense with you.

    Have fun at the convention!
