    Dear Colleagues,

I'm supervising the TESOL practicum at the University of Colorado Boulder this semester. Due to COVID, my usual placement site for student teachers has limited capacity for student teachers. I'm sure many of my teacher education colleagues are facing a similar challenge.

I'm seeking additional cooperating teachers (CTs) to host my TESOL practicum students in remote English as an additional language (EAL) classes. In particular, I am looking for morning/early afternoon (MST/Denver time) classes with young learners, but any classes will be considered. I am supervising 30 TESOL certificate students - 25 undergraduate, 5 graduate. This "practicum light" is an apprenticeship of observation/assisting. These TESOL certificate students are not pursuing state licensure or endorsement.

The expectations of the cooperating teachers are deliberately minimal in light of the constraints and stressors we are all navigating during the pandemic. Unfortunately, there is no compensation.

    Expectation of practicum students:
    • 30-hour practicum (20 hrs in classroom, 10 hrs for prep/reflection)
    • 20 contact hours in the classroom
      • 5 hours to observe/integrate
      • 13 hours to assist, support, facilitate as needed by CT
      • 2 hours - deliver activities independently for reflection
    Expectations of cooperating teachers:
    • Share syllabus or learning plan with practicum students
    • Provide access to online class & go over class agreements
    • Introduce to learners and involve as is helpful over the 20-hour practicum
    • Provide appropriate topic/focus for independent delivery of 2 activities
If you are able to welcome a TESOL practicum student to your class, please email me at
