    Greetings, educators!

    We hope you can join us for our final course of summer 2021: Restoring Students' Innate Power: Trauma-Responsive Strategies for Teaching Multilingual Newcomers.

    Registration for this 4-week/10 PL credit course is open now HERE.  Asynchronous learning cohort begins July 8!

    Session Description: This educator professional development equips educators to successfully address student trauma using a culturally responsive approach, in ways that are inclusive across multiple stages of English acquisition. It is rooted in our popular TESOL 2021 session and upcoming book of the same title (ASCD Press, due late 2021).

    Participants will gain critical background knowledge and exit with a" tool box" practical strategies for mitigating student trauma in traditional, distance, and blended CLDE classrooms.
    The four week interactive course opens July 8.

    Restoring Students' Innate Power introduces and explores evidence-based tools for mitigating culturally sensitive trauma at different stages along the K-12 spectrum. In it, practitioners will:

    • Define student identity and culturally responsive pedagogy in order to apply a CRT lens to trauma-informed instruction;
    • Establish a baseline understanding and common language around trauma in working with diverse student populations
    • Learn to recognize verbal and non-verbal manifestations of trauma;
    • Understand how significant trauma shapes learning (including language development and language acquisition), social integration and friend-making;
    • Discern ways in which cultural lenses influence the perception of mental health and impact family outreach related to trauma resolution;
    • Clarify major differences between SEL and trauma-informed instruction (as well as the working relationship between the two); and
    • Explore tens of research-based, classroom tested, easy-to-implement strategies for negotiating significant stress in culturally and linguistically diverse settings.
