    Hello everyone,

My name is Muftah Hamed and I a lecturer of applied linguistics at Omar Almukhtar University, Libya. I recieved my Master degree in Applied Linguistics from Griffith University, in Australia, in 2013. Now I am planning to write a proposal for my PhD. My research interest is textbook evaluation. I have found no studies have been yet done in the Libyan context. Therefore, I decided to fill this gap in the literature by evaluating the the textbooks from grade 1 to 4 from the perspectives of teachers and supervisors.

Do you think it is a good topic for PhD program?

I appreciate your assistance in advance.

Muftah, will your PhD also be at Griffith University? Since PhD programs vary in their emphases and requirements, it might be best to ask your question about a good topic to the faculty there.

If they approve of textbook evaluation, it might be good to narrow your focus a bit. For example, you could evaluate the textbooks in terms of the grammar they present and whether that aligns with current emphases based on corpus linguistics. Or your evaluation might be in light of culture and English as an international language.
